    What is Report Generator?

    In short

Report Generator is an AI automation for Analytics & Reporting teams that works with Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Outlook, PostgreSQL and 2 more apps. Builds your weekly or monthly management report from approved metrics, adds a short "what changed and why", and sends it after the owner approves. It is built for owner or founder, finance lead, operations manager (with the leadership team and board or investors as readers).

    The problem today

Someone copies numbers from QuickBooks, a Google Sheet and a database into a slide or doc each week or month. Today: 3–6 hours each time. Numbers get pasted wrong, definitions drift ("revenue" means three things), and nobody writes down data caveats.

    With Report Generator

    What it does

On schedule, it runs each approved metric and compares it with the prior period, last year and target. Rules decide what is notable, find the top 3 drivers behind big changes and add caveats when data is late or incomplete. AI writes a short narrative, but it can only refer to numbers from the rule-built fact pack, and a check blocks any number that does not trace. The report owner reviews and edits the text, then it goes out by email and Slack.

    How does Report Generator work?

    How it works
    • Rule you set
    • AI step
    • A person decides
    1. Step 1Rule

The report is due (schedule, books closed, Sheet ready, or Run now).

    2. Step 2Rule

It works out the period in your time zone and fiscal year.

    3. Step 3Rule

It pulls every approved metric and checks freshness and completeness.

    4. Step 4Rule

It computes changes and drivers and flags what is notable.

    5. Step 5AI

AI writes the summary; a check makes sure every number traces back.

    6. Step 6Person

The owner approves, then it is sent and archived.

    What you get

    Key features
    • Every number comes from the shared metric layer, rounded once by its definition.
    • Comparisons vs prior period, last year and target; "notable" at a change of 10% or more (default) and above a minimum amount.
    • Top 3 drivers by product, region or customer for notable changes.
    • Fiscal calendars: India FY April–March, January FY, retail 4-4-5, plus month-to-date labels.
    • Caveats on page 1, a PROVISIONAL banner when books are not closed, a definitions appendix and a data freshness table.
    • PDF by default, Google Doc optional; Indian number format option (1,00,000).
    • If the narrative fails the check twice, the tables still go out with a short template note.

How much does it do on its own?

True in every modeNever invents a number and never states a cause as fact; interpretations must be hedged ("likely", "may").

What it will never do on its own

    Safety & human control
    • Never invents a number and never states a cause as fact; interpretations must be hedged ("likely", "may").
    • Board, investor and external reports always need approval, in every mode.
    • Recipients come only from your list; owner notes are shown to the reviewer but never printed in the report.
    • It escalates on a stale source, a changed definition, a 50%+ change on a key metric, query errors, incomplete data or suspicious text.
    • Read-only access to QuickBooks, Sheets and your database; raw rows are not stored, and logs hold no figures.
    • You approve before it acts
    • Your data stays yours
    • It knows its limits
    • Stop anytime

    Illustrative example
A 60-person distributor gets its monthly report on the 3rd working day after QuickBooks books close. Revenue is down vs last month, and the report names the three regions behind it using "likely" wording. The finance lead edits one sentence, approves, and the board email goes out with the PDF.
A made-up scenario to show how it works, not a customer story.
